AlunaGeorge have shared a personally significant single as their latest work, collaborating with rappers Dreezy and Leikeli47 for a tongue-in-cheek “Mean What I Mean.” In the track, singer Aluna Francis belts out lyrics of denying an anonymous person’s advances and advising them not to twist her words over a tropical soundscape rife with exotic drum samples and punctured with spurts of catchy horn melodies.
The track, Francis divulged in a recent Annie Mac interview, was inspired by a recent experience in which she rejected a suitor who noted that she was “playing hard to get.” The singer told Annie Mac that felt she could have handled the situation better than she did, and finds solace in expressing her hindsight views in sonic form, backed by blunt verses by her rapper collaborators.
“Mean What I Mean” is the third single to be released from AlunaGeorge’s forthcoming sophomore LP, I Remember, which is currently set for a September release date.
